Uber Claims Win at Miami-Dade Commission Meeting

A Miami-Dade commissioner is backing off a proposal that would create strict regulations for ride sharing services like Uber.

Commission Chairman Jean Monestime announced Wednesday he's withdrawing his proposal that had favored regulations similar to taxi companies.

Dozens of Uber representatives and drivers attended Wednesday's commission meeting, along with taxi company reps and drivers. The taxi companies argue that Uber drivers are stealing their business.

Commissioner Esteban Bovo, who favors lighter restrictions for Uber drivers, will work on a new proposal that will be sent to the county's transportation committee and could be back before the full commission in March.
