Unsolved Mystery: Woman Held Hostage, Killed Inside Public Storage Office

On June 24, 2016, police say Laura Cuni was held hostage and beaten to death inside a Public Storage office.

"The description of her death was brutal," said Leticia Marcos, the victim's sister.

Cuni was a manager at the Public Storage on Marlin Road in Cutler Bay. She lived in an apartment above the storage facility. Her longtime girlfriend was her roommate, and she called police frantically after she had not seen Cuni since the night before her murder.

The victim's partner told Miami-Dade Police that Cuni briefly went up to the apartment looking disheveled. She also asked the girlfriend for her cellphone.

"She says if you don't give me your cell phone they're going to kill me," said Detective Michelle Mullen, Miami-Dade Police Department.

Hours after she took the cellphone, Cuni was found dead in the office closet.

According to detectives, due to the large amounts of blood, they were unable to determine right away what caused her death.

"My conclusion would be that she was actually held hostage and then beaten during the process in order to get whatever information these people thought she may have had," said Det. Mullen.

According to the girlfriend, four people were involved in the violent murder. Police believe the people responsible knew Cuni's routine and followed her.

"Please come forward. Give any information you have. We need to put Laura at rest," said Marcos.

Police are offering a $28,000 reward in this case. If you have any information you can remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
