For the fifth straight year in Broward County, gold coins valued at over $1,000 each have found their way into the famous red kettles from the Salvation Army that collect donations across the country.
The agency said that three coins, which total around $3,600 in value, were found wrapped inside dollar bills and placed anonymously in the kettle located at a Walmart Neighborhood Market off South Federal Highway in Lighthouse Point.
“It’s a most wonderful and thoughtful early Christmas present that will go a long way toward helping families in need, right here, in Broward County,” said director of development Alyse Gossman.
The coins were discovered during a routine check of kettles. So far, more than $120,000 has been raised in Broward County alone as part of the annual tradition that dates back to the late 1800’s.
