Video: Kid Left on Bus May Have Been Awake

Police released video of a kindergartner who was left on a hot school bus for five hours

A 6-year-old boy who was left on a hot school bus for the entire school day does not appear to be sleeping, which is what his mother claims she was told by school officials, surveillance video from the bus shows.

Aden Bramwell can be seen on the video, released by Pembroke Pines Police on Tuesday, sitting up and moving around in his seat near the back of the bus May 23.

The kindergartner, who has Autism, is only a few feet from Sarah Brown, the bus aide who was supposed to make sure he gets off the bus safely.

Sophia Bramwell, Aden's mom, said school officials told her that the bus driver and his aide didn't see the child because he was laying down in the seat sleeping as they dropped the bus off at the bus depot.

"The excuses don't fly. Your job is to check," Bramwell said Monday. "As a parent, you don't think it can happen to you. It can happen to anybody. It did to us."

Brown and bus driver Thomas Mobley have been charged with child neglect for the incident. They resigned from the school district in June.

The Broward County School District declined to comment on the video, stating it was part of an ongoing investigation.

Phone calls to Brown and Mobley were not returned Tuesday.

In the video, Brown can be seen checking the seats in the front of the bus, but she doesn't go to the back of the bus or appear to see the little boy sitting in the rear.

Aden Bramwell, who was wearing a gray hooded sweater, is moving around in the seat, the short clip shows.

Bramwell was eventually discovered at the end of the school day when his aunt came to pick him up from school.

Sophia Bramwell has notified the Broward Schools that she might file a lawsuit over the incident. She said her son has been traumatized by what happened and doesn't like to be left alone.

She said her son, who is going into the first grade, will not be riding the school bus this year.
