A man is facing charges after he was caught on camera shooting a taxi driver during an armed robbery in Davie last month, police said.

Jonathan King, 26, is facing aggravated battery and armed robbery charges in the Aug. 24 shooting that was captured on the Yellow Cab driver's camera, Davie Police said.

Police confirmed Friday that the incident is being investigated as a homicide after the victim died.

According to an arrest report, the 66-year-old driver said he picked the suspect up at a gas station in the area of Davie Road and Southwest 37th Street and took the man to a Bank of America at 3580 S. University Drive.

While they were in the parking lot, the driver said the suspect attacked him. The driver said he never saw a gun or heard a gunshot, but later realized he'd been shot in the right leg.

"[The victim] stated that he later realized that he smelled the odor of gun powder and realized he had been shot in the leg," the arrest report said.

The driver was able to get the suspect out of the car and drove away before he was able to call the police. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, and later died.

The suspect fled the scene on foot, but an officer was able to identify him using the video from the taxi, the report said.

"After looking at the video a second time I believed that Jonathan King Jr was a possible suspect. I was aware that King has a history of robbing taxi cabs and has a long violent criminal history," the officer wrote in the report.

King was arrested Sept. 3 and booked into jail. Attorney information wasn't available.
