Violent Crash Kills Two, Including Young Child

Four others injured in Southwest Miami-Dade wreck

A violent four-car crash on a Southwest Miami-Dade highway killed two people -- including a young child -- and sent several others to the hospital Sunday night.

The accident happened around 10 p.m. on the southbound side of the Palmetto Expressway near the Don Shula Expressway and Bird Rd.

According to officials with the Florida Highway Patrol, a silver Chevy truck clipped a Mitsubishi SUV, crashed into and over a median wall and struck two more cars that were going northbound.

Juniel Dario Cruz, just 21-months-old, was in one of the cars that was traveling northbound and was killed at the scene.

One person in the truck, identified by FHP as 46-year-old David De La Vega, was also killed at the scene. At least three people were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital and another person was taken to a different hospital.

Their conditions are unknown.
