Waitress Gives $1,000 to Wrong Customer, Later Rewarded

A Punta Gorda waitress who accidentally gave $1,000 to the wrong customer, got a generous Christmas gift.

Samantha Knight, waitress at Laishley Crab House, found $1,000 on a seat and gave it to a man who she thought had left it, but it turned out that it belonged to someone else.

The man who took the money said it was an honest mistake and assumed he dropped it because he had a lot of money in his pocket.

"He said I'm so sorry. It was a misunderstanding. He said I'm from Delaware. The money was in my wallet underneath other stuff. I'm in town buying stuff, so I had that much money," said Knight to NBC 2.

He later saw himself on the news and turned in the money to the waitress, NBC 2 reported.

Chuck Behm, the man who lost the money is now giving the $1,000 to Knight, who is expecting a baby, as a Christmas gift.

"Overwhelmed. I was crying earlier. I called my mom and was like I can't believe it. I called the guy and I was like are you sure?" said Knight.

The man who returned the money also gave Knight a gift by giving her $100 for the holidays.
