Toddler in Diapers Found Wandering Alone in Little Havana

A toddler wearing only a diaper was found wandering alone in the streets of Little Havana on Thursday morning.

A woman flagged down Coral Gables police Sgt. Velier Zaccheo and pointed toward the toddler walking on the sidewalk along West Flagler Street near NW 24th Court.

"We saw a female in the median flagging us down frantically, so I looked over to the direction where she was pointing and I saw the child walking, on the sidewalk about to approach the intersection," Zaccheo told NBC 6.

Zaccheo was able to quickly secure the boy and stayed with him for about 20 minutes, wrapping him in a sweater from a passerby.

Miami police believe the boy, who is about 2 years old, may have snuck out of the house and escaped from his aunt's watch.

"I even expected a parent to probably show up shortly after, but that did not happen," Zaccheo said.

The aunt was taken in for questioning. She is not being charged, Miami police said.
