Week 2 of Murder Trial in Facebook Photo Slaying

A murder trial started its second week for a South Florida man who claims he shot his wife in self-defense before posting a photo of her dead body on Facebook.

The lead detective continued testifying Monday in the prosecution's case against 33-year-old Derek Medina. Medina faces life in prison if convicted in the August 2013 killing of 27-year-old Jennifer Alfonso at their South Miami home.

In dramatic court room fashion, Medina's defense attorney showed the knife Alfonso supposedly pulled on her husband. Medina maintains he shot his wife 6-8 times in self-defense, after she attacked him.

Pictures of Medina's tattooed body were shown. Pointing out small red marks on his chest, even a small bruise on his arm, suggested marks put there by an enraged Alfonso.

However, detectives claimed to have observed Medina pinching himself to make those marks during interrogation.

Not only showing Alfonso as the aggressor, the defense showed again the taped formal statement by Medina, portraying Alfonso as a drug house visiting, pot head, who used other drugs.

Miami-Dade Police lead Detective Jonathan Grossman was questioned about why he didn't follow up on those accusations.

Attorneys going after Grossman, trying to show shoddy investigative work, pointed out that his own client lied to detectives about being a professional boxer.

Much of the afternoon, though, was focused on the knife.

Big questions were raised. Medina's claims didn't make sense that he disarmed his wife, put the knife away, then shot her.

The trial will resume on Tuesday.
