Weekend Planner: Get Ready for the Holidays!

As December starts, the holiday events begin in South Florida. Here are some events that will start getting you in the holiday spirit, or just give you something to do over the weekend.

Zoo Lights in Zoo Miami (Dec. 1 - 30, every Friday and Saturday)

More than half a million animal-shaped lights will "light up the night" at Zoo Miami every Friday and Saturday in December, including Dec. 26-30, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Admission is $9.95 per person and $7.95 per member. Click here for more information.

Candy Cane Parade (Dec. 2)

Described as "one of the longest running parades in the country," the City of Hollywood's annual Candy Cane Parade is scheduled for Dec. 2. Several lighted floats and vehicles will roll down the Hollywood Beach boardwalk, and candy canes and mints will be tossed to onlookers. The parade starts at 7 p.m. at Scott Street and heads to Harrison Street. There will be complimentary bleacher seating along the parade route. Click here for more information.

“Festival of Trees” Season Kickoff (Dec. 1)

Munch on holiday cookies and sip on hot chocolate during the “Festival of Trees” Season Kickoff on Dec. 1. Kids can write letters to Santa and enjoy holiday crafts at the Deering Estate. Admission is $12 for adults and $7 for children. The event is free for Deering Estate Foundation members. Click here for more information.

Riptide Music Festival (Dec. 2 – Dec. 3)

Hit the beach to listen to some live music, as Riptide Music Festival is back and larger than ever. The 2-day concert taking place on Ft. Lauderdale Beach runs through the weekend. Performances include: Portugal. The Man, KC & the Sunshine Band, Boyz II Men, Salt-N-Pepa, Tito Puente Jr. and many more. Tickets start at $70.

Saturday Morning Meditation at the Shelborne South Beach (Dec. 2)

Check in with yourself and be still, while enjoying the beautiful weather and listening to the waves crash on the sand, as you enjoy a guided meditation. The free meditation begins at 10 a.m. and is held on the 18th Street Beach behind the Shelborne. Sign up here.

Winterfest Black Tie Ball (Dec. 2)

Nothing screams the holidays like the Winterfest Boat Parade. The Black Tie Ball is their signature event to kick off the Winterfest season. The event promises live performances, delicious bites and plenty of champagne. Be sure to bid on their silent auction, which includes more than 250 items. Tickets start at $250.00.
