Wes Welker Visiting Dolphins for Potential Reunion

One-time Dolphins wide receiver Wes Welker will visit with the team on Wednesday

The Miami Dolphins are going back in time to find offensive depth and will host wide receiver Wes Welker on Wednesday.

Welker played for the Dolphins from 2004-2006 before he was traded to the New England Patriots for a pair of draft picks. After leaving Miami, Welker's career really took off and he was named to the Pro Bowl in five consecutive seasons.

Welker's time in New England was historic and he is the franchise's all-time leader in receptions. Welker also led the entire NFL in receptions in 2007 (tied), 2009 and 2011. The 33-year old had one of the best six-year runs of any NFL receiver in history while playing with the Patriots.

Following his time with the Patriots, Welker signed a free-agent deal with the Denver Broncos. Welker served as a target for Peyton Manning the past two seasons but was only able to suit up for 22 combined games. While Welker played well in 2013, his production took a hit in 2014.

Part of the reason that Welker only played in nine games last season is due to a NFL suspension for amphetamines. This violation of the league's drug policy led to Welker initially being suspended for four games. He'd end up only missing two games however when the suspension was lifted due to a change in NFL policy.

Beyond that suspension, Welker dealt with a concussion during the pre-season last year and it was not the first time the WR fell victim to one. Welker actually suffered three concussions in only a 10-month period at one point.

Should Welker sign with Miami, he would serve as depth and may have difficulty finding many throws in his direction.
