What's Open, What's Closed on Martin Luther King Jr. Day in South Florida

As South Florida and the rest of the country celebrates the birthday of civil rights leader and icon Martin Luther King Jr., business and government closures will give some people the day off on Monday.

All federal, state, county and municipal offices will be closed in observance of the holiday, along with public schools and colleges.

Most banks will be closed as post offices will also be closed, meaning no mail will be distributed. Libraries in both counties will also be closed.

Most grocery stores and malls will be open, as will public parks in both counties. Trash pickup will continue as scheduled in Broward, but not in Miami-Dade.

Tri-rail service will operate on its normal schedule Monday, as will the Metrorail, Metromover and Metrobus in Miami-Dade and the Broward County Transit bus system.

Other closures include the Broward County Animal Care and Adoption Center as well as the county landfill in Fort Lauderdale.
