Woman Allegedly Bites Off Man's Ear During Fight: BSO

A Pompano Beach woman is facing an aggravated battery charge after she allegedly bit off part of the ear of a man during a fight in the parking lot of a condominium complex.

According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, Walter Chace was sitting on his balcony when he saw a man and woman walk up to a trailer he owns in the parking lot. The BSO said the man, identified as Ian Smigels, 19, tried to manipulate a door on the trailer and tried to get on top of it.

The BSO said Chace told his girlfriend to call 911 and tell them someone was trying to break into his trailer. According to the arrest affidavit, Chace went downstairs and began arguing with the teenager and then a fight started.

The arrest report said Chace got Smigels in chokehold, then released him until Smigels charged Chace again. BSO said the Chace again got Smigels in a chokehold, but this time the woman, Smigels’ mother Lisa Grant, 42, began to punch and kick Chace.

According to the affidavit, at some point Grant “bit down on Chace’s left ear and tore off the upper part of the ear and spit it on the ground.” BSO said deputies arrived at this point and broke up the fight.

The BSO said surgeons were unable to re-attach the ear due to the human bite and the danger of infection.

Grant is currently in jail on a $60,000 bond, it’s unknown if she has an attorney.
