Authorities in southwest Florida say a female carjacking suspect is dead following a confrontation with sheriff's deputies.

The Collier County Sheriff's Office said 46-year-old Michel Marie Burg got into a struggle with truck driver who she was attempting to carjack at gunpoint Wednesday. According to witnesses, the woman then attempted another carjacking before taking a car from a couple leaving a restaurant.

The Naples Daily News reports deputies began following the vehicle down U.S. 41, and the car collided with patrol cars.

Sheriff's spokesman Efrain Hernandez says a confrontation ended with gunfire. He didn't say how many shots were fired. The race of those involved was also not immediately available.

    An internal investigation is underway.
