Woman Found Dead in Oakland Park Apartment

The Broward Sheriff's Office was investigating a homicide at an Oakland Park apartment building Tuesday.

Deputies responded to the Bridgewater Place Apartments at 2800 Northwest 44th Street just before 3:30 a.m. after receiving a burglary in progress call, officials said.

However, the caller didn't give 911 operators a unit number during the call.

"All they could do is go door to door to door trying to find anything that was amiss," said Dani Moschella of BSO. "It was dark. It was 3:30 a.m. There were no residents around."

When they arrived, they found a sliding door had been forced open at a ground floor apartment. When they went inside, they discovered a woman's body.

"It's a tragedy," said resident Carie Mathis. "I'm not sure what happened."

The victim's identity is unknown.

BSO said homicide detectives consider the death suspicious and believe foul play is involved.

Anyone with information on the death should call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477).
