Woman Killed in Officer-Involved Crash in Pembroke Pines

A woman was killed after witnesses said she ran a light and slammed into a police car in Pembroke Pines overnight.

According to police, Officer Olayemi Okegbola was traveling eastbound on Pines Boulevard around 2:15 a.m. Thursday when he collided with 24-year-old Jessica Bonilla of Miami Lakes at 114th Avenue.

Bonilla was headed southbound on Northwest 114th Avenue in a gray 2012 Infinity and witnesses said she slammed into Okegbola's police car.

Both Okegbola and Bonilla were taken to Memorial Regional Hospital. Bonilla was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said.

Okegbola, who has been with the department for more than nine years, was sedated but was expected to survive the crash.

According to police, five independent witnesses confirmed that Bonilla drove into the path of the police vehicle.

The investigation into the crash continues.
