Woman Uses Her Kid to Protect Herself From Boyfriend's Attack: Report

She thought he "would not stab them if their child was between them," the arrest report said.

A woman shielded herself with her child while being attacked by her boyfriend, a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office arrest report said.

Devin Juan Wilkes, 24, faces charges including child abuse, aggravated assault, battery and felony domestic battery, according to online jail records.

The report says the couple began arguing about their relationship on Dec.9. Wilkes told his girlfriend, 22-year-old Sheena Hunter, "I'm gonna go to jail tonight. I'm fixin' to f*** you up," according to the arrest report.

Wilkes punched her in the face and then waved a kitchen knife at her in the bedroom, the report said.

Hunter held up her child to protect herself from Wilkes' attack, the report said. She thought he "would not stab them if their child was between them," the report said.

When Hunter would not put the child down, Wilkes put the knife away, grabbed the child and threw the child face-first onto the floor, the report said. He told her, "You made me hit my ... now you're gonna die," and began to choke her.

The attack stopped when Hunter's mother called her phone, and Wilkes then stole Hunter's car keys and left the home, the report said.

Police who responded to the home recovered the knife in a drawer, and paramedics treated the child but Hunter refused treatment on her lip, the report said.

Wilkes was arrested on Jan. 2 and was found hiding in the child's closet. He remains in custody with $500,000 bond, according to jail records.

The couple lived with each other sporadically and had been in a relationship for two years, according to the report.

It wasn't immediately known if he had an attorney.
