A South Florida woman is recovering at Kendall Regional Medical Center after being stabbed during a home invasion. The intruder is still at large.
Raquel Torres, 65, is grateful to be alive. The intruder stabbed her multiple times inside her Homestead townhome before sunrise on New Year's Day.
"She was just watching TV and all of a sudden she heard something behind her and turned around, the guy was there and she asked what he was doing there, and he started speaking Spanish and attacked her, just attacking her out of nowhere," said Alex Sierra, victim's son.
Sierra has been by his mother's side as she recovers. She had her spleen removed, a punctured lung and needed several stitches on her arms.
Sierra took cellphone video the following night and said the attacker must've slipped in through an open back sliding glass door. He's been worried his mother wouldn't make it.
"I try to stay strong, you know. I have kids so I try to stay strong around them but I can't believe he's out there. He's still out there," Sierra expressed.
Homestead Police are investigating but no arrests have been made. Torres only described her attacker as a Hispanic man. After the stabbing, she was able to get out of her house and run to a neighbor's home, who called 911.

Homestead Police are expecting to be at the hospital Thursday to speak with Torres about the attack. It will be a few more days before she's well enough to go home, according to her family.
