A Sunrise woman is facing an attempted murder charge after police say she shot her boyfriend in the head because she thought he was having an affair.
Balvina Moscote, 68, was arrested Monday night after she shot the man during an argument at the home the couple has shared for the past three years, according to a Sunrise Police arrest affidavit. The argument was over another woman the unidentified man is alleged to have a relationship with.
The shooting victim called 911, calmly telling an interpreter in Spanish, "My wife shot me two times," accoridng to a phone recording released Wednesday.
According to the affidavit, Moscote became enraged, loaded her .22 caliber handgun and confronted the victim, pointing the gun at him and demanding he tell the truth about the suspected relationship with the other woman, the report said.
Moscote shot the gun twice, grazing the top of the man's head and hitting him once in the left arm. The shot to the head caused significant injury, the affidavit said.
The man was able to take the gun from Moscote and when he went to check on his injuries in the bathroom, Moscote fled the home on foot, the affidavit said.
Moscote ran to the door of her friend Yolanda Pierre. When Moscote arrived she was screaming, "I've ruined my life," Pierre said.
Pierre said that though she opened her home to Moscote, she warned she would let police in too.
While at the house, Moscote said "that she had shot the victim two times," the affidavit said.
When officers questioned Moscote she admitted to shooting her boyfriend, saying she shot him because she was feeling so disrespected, the affidavit said.
The man was taken to the intensive care unit at Broward General Medical Center for treatment for slight bleeding on the brain, the affidavit said.
Broward Circuit Judge John Hurley denied bond for Moscote Wednesday. It was unknown whether she has an attorney.
Pierre said she feels "very, very bad" for her good friends.
"This is very hard for me, it's hard for me,” she said.
