Woman Tried to Deal Drugs to Deputy: Police

Arrest made after woman in Keys makes unusual offer to deputy

A woman was behind bars Friday after police say she tried to deal drugs to a Florida Keys deputy.

Jennifer Knopp, 39, called Deputy Christian Galls on his cell phone while he was on duty at the Marathon Substation Thursday around 9 p.m. and made the unusual offer, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

Knopp told Deputy Galls she had "the stuff he was looking for," and offered to sell him marijuana. Knopp had the deputy's cell phone number from a previous case she was involved in, the sheriff's office said.

Deputy Galls immediately notified narcotics detectives to assist, and the deputy called Knopp and agreed to meet her at the Marathon Movie Theater.

Police say Deputy Galls and Deputy Paul Bean then went to the movie theater to meet with Knopp and when they approached her vehicle, she tried to drive away. The deputies stopped Knopp and a male passenger in her car who was later released without charges.

When asked by the deputies, Knopp said she offered to sell marijuana to a deputy because she was hoping to get away from the male passenger in her car, police said.

Knopp was arrested and charged with possessing 24.5 grams of marijuana. It was unknown whether she had an attorney.
