Woman Who Was Shot Celebrating July 4 Finds Out Days Later

A central Florida woman says she was shot in the leg while celebrating Independence Day but didn't know it until doctors found the bullet days later.

Heather Charlebois told The Daytona Beach News-Journal that she finally went to the hospital on Thursday. Doctors told her they found a .38-caliber bullet lodged in her leg.

Charlebois says she was on the patio of Cafe Da Vinci in DeLand Saturday night when she felt a pain in her leg. She checked it out in the bathroom, but the 42-year-old mother of four says there was little blood, so she assumed she had been hit by a firecracker.

Police say they're investigating, but there were no reports of gunfire in the area Saturday night. Police believe the bullet might have been fired into the air some distance away.
