Woman in Custody After Hialeah Police Chase

Police say woman hit several cars before she was taken into custody

A woman was arrested after she led police on a reckless car chase through the streets of Hialeah Thursday morning, authorities said.

The chase began when officers were called to the Fantasy Inn Motel at West Okeechobee Road and 8th Avenue to perform a welfare check on a woman and saw the suspect hop in a car and drive off, Hialeah Police spokesman Eddie Rodriguez said.

When officers tried to stop her, she sped off and a chase ensued along West Okeechobee Road, Rodriguez said.

The woman hit several vehicles before she was finally stopped and taken into custody in the area of West Okeechobee Road and 4th Avenue, Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez said one officer discharged his weapon when the woman tried to ram him with her car. No one was hit by the bullet.

Police haven't identified the woman, who was seen sitting on the sidewalk at the scene of the incident in handcuffs.

Rodriguez said the woman had called officers herself, saying she was afraid or worried about something.
