Women Accused of Drugging, Robbing South Florida Tourists

Two women accused of drugging and ripping off tourists in separate incidents in South Florida are facing numerous charges.

Shakelia Wilson, 36, is accused of breaking into a man's hotel room on South Beach, stealing his credit card and later using it at a nearby store.

Wilson was arrested Thursday on multiple charges of grand theft, burglary and fraudulent use of a credit card as well as poisoning food or water, Miami-Dade jail records showed.

Wilson is also accused of teaming up with another woman to drug and steal from two other men on South Beach. Officials said Wilson and her friend were persistent about the men drinking some beers and the men woke up hours later at the beach. One of the men was missing his Rolex watch and iPhone.

When police arrested Wilson, she had a victim's debit card in her bra, an arrest report said. The car had been used at least once without the man's permission, the report said.

Meanwhile, a second woman, 23-year-old Destina Byrd, was arrested on Dec. 29 on charges including grand theft and poisoning food or water.

An arrest report said Byrd, who is pregnant, met a tourist from New York at Club Wall in the W Hotel on Collins Avenue. The two went to a bar and ended up in Byrd's car, where the man says he was given a spiked drink, the report said.

The man said the next thing he remembered he was back at his hotel room and was missing his $15,000 Rolex watch, his iPhone and his credit cards. The cards were used at multiple locations for a total of $5,200 in fraudulent transactions, the report said.

Wilson and Byrd were booked into jail. Attorney information wasn't available.
