Worker Struck and Killed by Truck at Port Everglades

Broward Sheriff's Office detectives are investigating the death of a man who was struck and killed by a tractor trailer Wednesday at the entrance of a container yard in Port Everglades.

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue and BSO deputies were called to the Sun Terminals container yard at 4000 McIntosh Road around 5 p.m. after receiving a call that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle.

"An employee was leaving work and he was struck by a tractor trailer," said Keyla Concepcion with BSO.

Investigators said it appears Alden Waugh, 75, of Biscayne Park, had just finished his shift at the container yard.

The tractor, driven by Jorge Medina-Lopez, 48, was approaching the checkpoint at the Sun Terminal container yard when Waugh walked into the path of the vehicle. Waugh was pronounced dead on the scene.

BSO is continuing to investigate the incident. It's unclear whether Medina-Lopez will face any charges.
