Would-Be Abducter Said God Told Him To Take 4-Year-Old Boy: Miami Police

David Moore, 39, faces three charges after the incident on NW 4th Avenue

A man was arrested after he tried to abduct a 4-year-old boy, explaining “God told me to take him, God told me he’s coming with me,” Miami Police said.

David Moore, 39, is charged with attempted kidnapping of a child under age 13, false imprisonment of a child under 13, and criminal mischief, according to authorities.

The boy, Brandon Mincey,  was playing with other children outside his Overtown apartment at 1610 NW 4th Ave. on Tuesday when Moore walked up screaming “God.” While one witness attempted to pry the boy from Moore’s grasp, another witness and the children started to punch and kick him, police said.

"I had to fight the man so he could let Brandon go," said his cousin, 7-year-old A-nari Taylor, who said she was scared as she did so.

Police said Moore kept a hold of the 4-year-old’s wrist and started to pull him away with him, and the first witness, who identified herself as Tiffany Morris, kept struggling with him.

"The little boy looked so scared, I was trying to take him away, but the way he had him I didn't want to hurt him," Morris said. She said she called Brandon's mother Shaneka Lee for help, and she and A-nari "came over and just started beating the man up."

Moore eventually let go of the boy and started walking away.

"He started saying, 'Oh, God told me to take him, he needs his soul' and then he was like, 'He would have went with me' and I was like 'No, you can't have him, that's not your baby,'" Morris recounted.

Moore headed west and then south towards NW 14th Street. He was stopped on that street and eventually arrested and taken to Miami-Dade County Jail. While in custody, Moore took off his pants and defecated on the floor, police said.

He was being held without bond Friday afternoon, according to Miami-Dade Corrections online records. It was not immediately known if he has an attorney.
