Wrong-Way Driver Hits Multiple Cars, Shuts Down I-95 Southbound in Deerfield Beach

A wrong-way driver hit multiple cars on Interstate 95 in Deerfield Beach Friday night, causing all southbound lanes of the highway to be shut down for hours.

A Ford Escape SUV traveling north in the southbound lanes of I-95 just after 8 p.m. hit multiple vehicles, causing a chain-reaction crash that involved seven cars.

The accident shut down the soundbound lanes of the highway at Hillsboro Boulevard for about four hours. Florida Highway Patrol troopers diverted traffic off I-95. Traffic was backed up for miles, past Glades Road in Boca Raton.

Multiple fire rescue agencies responded, including Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue, Pompano Beach Fire Rescue and Lighthouse Point Fire Rescue.

Seven people were injured in the crash and taken to Broward Health North. Two of those injured were trauma alerts, while the other five people did not have serious injuries. All are expected to be okay.
