“You Got Me Red-Handed,” Bank Robber Told Police: DOJ

Authorities identified Cedrick Shivers as the robber Tuesday

Authorities identified Cedrick Shivers, 47, as the robber who held up an Iberia Bank in Wilton Manors Friday, then was quickly caught by an officer with a pile of money in his car and red dye all over his shirt.

Shivers, of Fort Lauderdale, gave a handwritten bank robbery demand note to a teller at the Iberia Bank at 2465 Wilton Drive at about 9 a.m. Friday, authorities said. His note told the teller not to activate silent alarms, not to give him dye packs, and to give him only certain denominations of cash, and he “threatened to bomb the building if the teller did not comply,” the U.S. Department of Justice said.

But the teller did slip in some dye, and when a Wilton Manors police officer stopped Shivers for speeding shortly thereafter, “the officer saw red smoke in the passenger compartment of Shivers’ car, red dye-stained money on the front driver’s seat, and red dye stains on Shivers’ white T-shirt,” the DOJ said.

After he was arrested, he told police, “You got me red-handed,” the DOJ said.

Shivers, who is charged with bank robbery, made his first appearance in federal court yesterday, and is due to return Friday for a pretrial detention hearing in Fort Lauderdale, authorities said.
