Accident Throws Motorcycle Rider Through Gym Window

The workouts at Eli’s Fitness Studio came to an abrupt end Wednesday night when a motorcycle driver came crashing through the front window of the gym in Oakland Park.

“I heard this huge noise, like an explosion went off,” said witness Kelly Doyle.

Police said the driver of the motorcycle, said to be a 30-year-old man, clipped the side of a parked SUV and lost control of his bike at NE 42nd Street and Dixie Highway. After clipping the SUV, the driver wound up being thrown from the bike into the window.

“I looked and I saw the glass was completely shattered by the window, and we ran over there and we saw that there was someone in the glass,” Doyle said.

No one inside the gym was injured, but the driver wasn’t as lucky.

“He was bleeding from the stomach, from the nose, from the mouth, and his helmet flew off before he hit the glass,” said witness Jackie Doyle. “It was pretty upsetting to see this young man on the ground. He wasn’t with his eyes open or anything.”

Members called Broward Fire-Rescue and then said they had to lean on their faith hoping the driver would pull through his injuries.

“Hands like this, and saying, ‘God be with him, be with him, you know, protect him,’” said Joao Neto, owner of Eli’s Fitness.

The accident left the front glass shattered, shoes lying in the street, and a helmet torn apart. Neto said the accident was not a surprise.

“A lot of cars, they go through here all the time,” Neto said. “That happens probably almost every day, but nothing really happens.”
