Animal Showdown: Battle Between Osprey, Eagle Over Fish Delays College Baseball Game in Florida

A fight between an osprey and an eagle over a fish disrupted a battle between a dolphin and a gamecock – no, it wasn’t something out of Animal Kingdom but instead a wild scene during a college baseball game in Florida.

Saturday’s game between the Jacksonville University Dolphins and the Jacksonville State (AL) Gamecocks was delayed in the eighth inning when a fish dropped from the sky behind the second baseman for the Dolphins, Scott Dubrule.

Overhead, spectators soon realized that the drop was the result of an osprey which had been holding its likely dinner before being chased by an eagle and forced to choose life over food.

A member of Jacksonville University’s baseball team, outfielder Connor Stephens, ran from the dugout and was able to retrieve the fish while receiving a loud ovation. Play resumed with the Dolphins eventually winning the game 5-2.
