A 14-year-old boy who was home alone at his family's house in southwest Miami-Dade was the victim of a frightening armed robbery that was caught on camera, police said.

Miami-Dade Police said the two suspects knocked on the door of the home on Southwest 172nd Street last Friday night while the teen's parents were away.

Surveillance video from inside the captured the teen open the door. A man enters the home and the boy takes off running into the house, out of what police said was fear for his life.

"They followed him into the kitchen and told him to lay down on the ground and cover his face with his own T-shirt," Miami-Dade Police Det. Argemis Colome said. "This is where they took the opportunity to obviously to steal items from the residence."

Police said the thieves took electronic items from the home before they fled through the back door. The teen wasn't injured.

"Something that we can always learn from all these incidents is if you're leaving your kid alone, I know he's 14 years old, they need to know the importance of looking before they open the door," Colome said. "And please, if you see something that doesn't look right or is not normal, to please just call 9-11."

Police described the suspects as black males between 28 and 30 years old. Anyone with information on the robbery or suspects is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
