Suspect in Custody After High-Speed Chase, Crash in Miami-Dade

A high-speed pursuit of a suspect in a stolen pickup truck ended in a crash in Miami-Dade County Monday afternoon.

The black pickup truck was seen traveling past NW 67th Avenue going east on the Palmetto Expressway before it exited the wrong way down an exit ramp.

The truck eventually crashed into a railroad crossing and fence on Northwest 74th Street and the suspect was seen fleeing on foot into a nearby pallet yard.

Minutes later, police took the suspect out in handcuffs. He was taken to a hospital for injuries.

Police said it all began with an armed carjacking at an auto shop in Opa-locka.

The truck hit a police vehicle, but no officers or other drivers were hurt during the chase.

Police said there were several warrants out for 33-year-old Albert Luis Fernandez' arrest. He may be connected to several burglaries in the Miami Lakes area.
