Authorities Search for Stolen 2012 London Olympics Gold Medal in Tampa Bay Area

Police said sprinter Demetrius Pinder's gold medal was stolen Wednesday.

Authorities are searching for a 2012 London Olympics gold medal after a Bahamian sprinter living in the Tampa Bay area reported it stolen this week.

Bradenton police said 24-year-old Demetrius Pinder reported the medal stolen Wednesday.

He left it in its case in the center console of his truck, which was parked outside his apartment. He said that he usually keeps the medal with him, but forgot to bring it inside Tuesday night.

During the London games, Pinder was a member of 4X400 relay team for the Bahamas, where he grew up. Pinder ran track at Texas A&M and currently trains at IMG Academy in Bradenton.

Police say fingerprints were lifted from Pinder's truck, and detectives are searching local pawn shops.

Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at 866-634-8477.
