A bad two vehicle crash shut down part of U.S. 1 in Coral Gables early Monday morning.
Coral Gables Police say two people needed to be extricated from the cars following the crash around 6:30 a.m. They were taken to an area hospital where they were in critical condition.
Crews shut down the major roadway in both directions between Ponce de Leon and Douglas Road while they cleared the scene and investigated the crash.
The northbound lanes reopened shortly before 7:30 a.m. while the southbound lanes reopened shortly before 10 a.m.
