Bats Stay Quiet As Marlins Fall Again

The Marlins are now 1-6 on the season after losing to Atlanta once again on Monday

The Miami Marlins saw their offensive struggles continue in a 3-2 loss to the Atlanta Braves on Monday at Turner Field.

The loss was already Miami's sixth of the season in only seven games played. It was also the third defeat in a row for the Marlins. Outside of the team's one win, Miami has only managed five combined runs in the six losses.

The Braves have now taken all four games against Miami this year. Atlanta is considered to be a non-contending team which is in a rebuilding mode while the Marlins entered the year as playoff picks by several picks. After this loss, Atlanta sits atop the National League East and the Marlins sit in last.

Mat Latos fared much better in his second start as a Marlin but still was tagged with a loss. Latos who could not get out of the first inning last week battled through four innings in this one. The Braves would score three runs off Latos, but all the scoring came after two rain delays had interrupted his rhythm.

Sam Dyson, A.J. Ramos and Carter Capps combined for four scoreless innings of relief after Latos was lifted. Those efforts kept Miami in the game and gave the offense a chance to fight back.

Giancarlo Stanton went 0-4 for a third straight game and is now hitting a dismal .130 this season. Martin Prado who was promoted to the cleanup spot had two hits including his first double of the year. Prado is now serving the role of protection for Stanton which figures to be one of the more important lineup spots all season long.

Christian Yelich brought home the first run of the game while Adeiny Hechavarria knocked in the second. The latter run came during a ninth inning rally by Miami that fell short.

The Marlins will send Tom Koehler to the mound on Tuesday as they continue to look for their second win of the year.
