‘Be Vigilant': Hollywood Police Continue Search for Sexual Assault Suspect

Hollywood Police say they’re amping up their patrols with specialized units around the clock as they try to apprehend a burglar and sexual assaulter who has struck three times since November.

The latest incident happened Thursday morning and involves a man who police say has been breaking into homes and then threatening sexual violence.

But in the latest case he took those threats further, sexually assaulting his third victim inside her home after breaking through a door and demanding cash.

The area where police say all three break-ins happened in the last two months in the early morning hours is between Dixie and Federal highways, from Pembroke Road north to Washington Street.

"As a woman it makes me feel very scared," resident Mirna Lugo said.

Detectives believe the same suspect may be involved in all three cases and they’re using every resource to catch this predator.

"At this moment we’re looking for a suspect described as a black male between 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-10, roughly between the age of 30 and could possibly be in possession of a black hoodie or a blue hoodie with the words 'Run' with white letters," Hollywood Police Spokesperson Christian Lata said.

Police say they need the eyes and ears of the community to help them out.

"We’re asking that people be vigilant. Be aware of their surroundings. Also don’t hesitate to call 911 if you see something suspicious. If you see someone that doesn’t belong in the area that fits this description please call 911, that’s what we’re there for," Lata said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
