A bicyclist was killed Thursday after colliding with, then being run over by a private school bus in Southwest Miami-Dade.

Children were on the bus at the time of the accident but police said none of them were injured.

The fatal crash happened on Southwest 187th Avenue and 354th Street in Florida City.

According to investigators, both the school bus and bicyclist were traveling southbound on Southwest 187th Avenue. As the bus driver approached the cyclist who was on the edge of the roadway, he attempted to go around the cyclist on the left side. But while the bus was passing, police said the bicyclist lost control and fell off the bike, landing underneath the bus.

The victim was run over by the rear tires and was pronounced dead on scene.

Police later identified the cyclist as 42-year-old Guillermo De La Rosa.

NBC 6 contacted the bus company and tried to reach the driver for comment, but neither has responded to request.
