Hundreds of South Florida students were rewarded for their hard work in the classroom as part of their time with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami.

The organization hosted an event for 300 students who recently graduated from high school and were a part of the mentoring program for at-risk youths. In total, the group gave over $300,000 in scholarship money for the students to use in their higher education.

One lucky student was presented with a new car for her to drive off to college with.

The event at the Adrienne Arsht Center featured several high profile celebrities, including DJ Irie and the Battier Take Charge Foundation, founded and run by former Miami Heat star Shane Battier.
