Bike Riders Take to The Streets to Honor Fallen Officers

Hundreds of bikers hit the road to honor fallen Florida law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty.

Cyclists came together on Monday for the Tour de Force, a 270 mile charity bike ride.

“Today, we ride 55 miles and there are about maybe 350 to 400 bike riders,” said rider Manny Miranda. “It’s mostly police officers, but some civilians supporting the cause. What I can do is come out and ride for them and help raise some funds for the family.”

The Florida Tour de Force began 10 years ago when a trooper was killed on duty. Since then, the annual event has raised more than $450,000 for families of fallen law enforcement.

“It's also very important to remember everything that they did for us,” said Milagros Ramos, who lost her husband, Dept. of Corrections Sgt. Jorge Ramos, last year in the line of duty.

Six others are also being honored including. City of Miami motorcycle officer Jorge Sanchez was killed in a crash in Southwest Miami Dade in early November.

“We want to make sure that they are not forgotten that they are still loved and remembered,” said Roberto Quinones from the North Miami Beach Police Department.

The five day ride will stretch from North Miami Beach to Daytona Beach, with some stops along the way.
