Black Bear Spotted Several Times Diving Into Dumpster at Fort Myers Brewery

What to Know

  • After leaving the area before FWC officials could arrive, the bear decided to return that night and attempt to finish what they started.

Sometimes after a night out at the bar, you need something to eat – but for one bear near Fort Myers, their night ended not by hitting up a fast food restaurant, but instead diving in a dumpster behind the establishment.

The Fort Myers Brewing Company posted on Facebook that the bear was spotted by customers starting Wednesday afternoon outside their location, with those inside saying they kept seeing the animal inside of the dumpster and walking around the area.

After leaving the area before Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials could arrive, the bear decided to return that night and attempt to finish what they started.

This time, FWC officials were able to mark the animal with paint in an effort to track and scared the bear away with an airhorn.

NBC affiliate WBBH-TV says the bear was on its way to Ocala National Forest in the northern part of the state after being spotted – while there is no word on if they stopped at food trucks along the way.
