Police are investigating after human remains were found inside a burning car in Hialeah early Monday.
The discovery was made in the parking lot at 8091 West 21st Lane around 3 a.m. Firefighters responded and were able to extinguish the fire.
The car was burned down to almost nothing, making it hard to determine how many victims were inside, police said.
"The fact the vehicle was set on fire makes everything a little more difficult so now we need the help of the forensics office to go ahead and go in there and do what they do best. And determine how many people or what in that vehicle was set on fire," Hialeah Police spokesman Eddie Rodriguez said.
Firefighters and police officers were investigating at the scene early Monday. The identity of the victim was unknown.
The area is primarily an industrial district with work shops and warehouses.
"I think it’s a shame, but in a city like this, things like that happen," said Roy Mastrapa of Bright Stone, a granite shop one complex over from where teh car was found. "This is what we live in, it’s the world we live in today. Things like that are expected."
Police say because of where the crime happened, they’re hopeful they’ll be able to use surveillance video from security cameras nearby.
A woman who would only identify herself as Nicole said police were in contact with her because the victim is possibly her ex-boyfriend. She said police came to her home.
The woman's friend, who identified herself as Tiffany, said police asked Nicole questions, which she answered, but they didn't give her any information.
