Boy, 8, Critically Injured in Crash in Miami

An 8-year-old boy was critically injured in a crash in Miami Monday night.

The crash happened around 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of Northwest 22nd Avenue and 36th Street and involved a Ford Explorer and a Volkswagen Beetle, Miami Fire Rescue officials said.

Rescue workers had to use extrication tools to free the boy from the wreckage and he was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center in extremely critical condition, officials said. The drivers of the Explorer and Beetle were also being evaluated by paramedics.

The cause of the crash was unknown.
