Boy Run Over by SUV, Dragged 450 Feet in Davie

A boy on a bicycle is lucky to be alive after he was run over and dragged for nearly 450 feet by the driver of an SUV in Davie in an incident that was caught on camera.

The 9-year-old boy was riding his bike to school in the 6500 block of Southwest 39th Street Wednesday when the incident happened, police said.

Police said the driver of a Chevrolet Suburban was leaving the Little Rascals parking lot when the boy fell off the bicycle nearby. It's possible that he slid on the sidewalk due to the rainy weather.

As the boy tried to get up, the Suburban turned and drover over the bicycle and boy, dragging them for about 448 feet before stopping, police said. A nearby surveillance camera captured the moment the boy was run over.

A passerby who witnessed the incident saw the woman driving the Suburban on her phone and thought the driver had seen the boy fall and was calling for help, police said. But as the SUV drove away, the witness realized the driver didn't notice the boy so she drove after the Suburban and alerted the driver.

Another passerby stopped and used a jack to lift the Suburban off the boy, who was completely stuck under the SUV. The boy suffered non-life threatening but serious injuries.

Police didn't say if the driver of the Suburban would face any charges.
