Boyfriend of Woman Whose Toddler Was Found in Drug-Filled Miami Motel Room Arrested

The boyfriend of a woman who's facing charges after authorities say her 2-year-old son was left alone in a Miami motel room surrounded by drugs has also been arrested, police said.

Osniel Machado, 26, was booked into the Miami-Dade Jail last Tuesday on a warrant, records showed. It's unknown if he's hired an attorney.

According to an arrest report, Machado is facing charges including grand theft auto, petit theft, resisting an officer with violence and driving with a suspended license.

Back on Feb. 25, an officer spotted him driving a stolen Honda Civic and tried to stop the car. Machado refused to stop then bailed out of the car and fled on foot but was caught a short time later, the report said.

Machado became a wanted man last month, following the arrest of girlfriend Maidolys Oduardo Paneque, whose son was found surrounded by drugs in a motel room.

According to a report, officers seized 42.4 grams of suspected cocaine powder, 10.1 grams of suspected crack cocaine, 12.6 grams of suspected marijuana, 1.9 grams of suspected Xanax, and $428.50 cash.

Police said the incident began when officers began pursuing a stolen motorcycle, which led them to the motel along Southwest 9th Street and 24th Avenue. Officers couldn't locate the man on the motorcycle, but a woman at the motel led them to a room where the man reportedly lived.

Once inside, officers saw a 2-year-old boy sleeping on the bed. The child was within arms reach of crack cocaine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia, police said.

Paneque was charged with child neglect. The child was placed in the custody of the Department of Children and Families.
