Brickell City Centre Set to Be Miami's New Shopping Mecca

Brickell City Centre is coming to life after 8 years of planning and building.

Around-the-clock construction makes every second count in bustling Brickell.

What was once a vision for Stephen Owens, the president of Swire Properties, is now a reality.

“I feel great pride in what we’ve been able to accomplish,” said Owens.

Brickell City Centre is coming to life after 8 years of planning and building.

Owens says Miami is moving very quickly to a true urban environment and a walkable city.

The $1 billion dollar project and 4.9 million square foot landmark offering shopping, dining, entertainment and a state-of-the-art cinema comes just in time as the population booms in Miami.

Sherri Gutierrez works for Arquitectonica International Corp. She is the project director of Brickell City Centre.

She says the developers are impressed with the outcome of the project.

“We’ve created what we think is a very pleasant indoor outdoor shopping experience and there is also a hotel tower, two office towers and residential towers,” Gutierrez touts.

The massive mall is still under construction and less than 10 percent of the retail stores will be ready at the grand opening.

“The remaining 91 percent that are leased will open pretty much by late spring and we culminate with our three level 38,000 square foot food hall in September,” Owens said.

As workers apply the finishing touches, the shopping mall's anchor store, Saks Fifth Avenue, is ready for its upcoming ribbon cutting.

“We are going to set the tone here for everybody else and really take that whole lifestyle element that Brickell City Centre wants to have and transform and translate it into our store,” said Ramona Messore, general manager for Saks Fifth Avenue Brickell.

The grand opening of Brickell City Centre is slated for Thursday.
