Brothers Get Life Sentences in Fatal Robbery

Two South Florida brothers have been sentenced to life in prison for a fatal robbery.

A Palm Beach County judge sentenced 25-year-old Thomas Byrd and 29-year-old Kevin Sammiel on Friday. They were convicted in June of first-degree murder and robbery.

Authorities say Dustin Deckard had been walking down a Delray Beach street shortly after midnight in August 2012 when a group of men jumped out of a van, shot and robbed Deckard and then drove away. Police pulled the van over a short time later. Inside were Sammiel, Byrd and 25-year-old Sherman Colson, along with Deckard's cell phone.

Colson is still awaiting trial. He has pleaded not guilty.

Deckard was a former high school wrestling star in New Jersey. He had moved to South Florida for drug rehab.
