Broward Man Accused of Sexually Assaulting Blind Woman

Brandon Jerrod Barther, 36, was arrested Thursday on a sexual assault charge in the Sept. 8, 2018 incident

A man is facing charges after authorities say he sexually assaulted a blind woman in the parking lot of a Walgreens in Pompano Beach last year.

Brandon Jerrod Barther, 36, was arrested Thursday on a sexual assault charge in the Sept. 8, 2018 incident, an arrest report said.

According to the report, the victim said she had gone to a club with some friends and was waiting alone in a car when she was approached by an unknown man, who offered to give her a ride home.

She eventually agreed, but the man drove to a Walgreens on Atlantic Boulevard. While they were sitting in the parking lot, the man told her "you owe me," then crawled on top of her and sexually assaulted her, the report said.

The man fled but another woman found the victim and called 911, the report said. When deputies arrived they found the victim had "bruises throughout her body," the report said.

"The victim was unable to provide a description of the male due to being legally blind," the report said.

The arrest report said DNA results tied Barther to the crime. He was booked into jail where he remained held on $200,000 bond Friday, and attorney information wasn't available.
