Broward Man Arrested for Allegedly Killing Roommate's Infant Daughter

Juan Santos, 27, was charged with murder six months after baby Makenzie Nevarez died from her injuries

A Broward man was arrested Wednesday in connection to the death of his roommate's infant daughter back in October.

Juan Santos, 27, was charged with murder six months after baby Makenzie Nevarez died from her injuries.

The mother of the 6-month-old left the little girl in Santos' care at their home on Northeast 33rd Court and 5th Avenue in Pompano Beach, Broward Sheriff's Office said. One hour after the child's mother left the home, baby Makenzie was in distress. She was taken to the hospital and died four days later.

Santos is accused of striking the infant's head against a wooden bed post, detectives said.

Two other children living at the home were taken into Child Protective custody and later handed over to family members. The baby's mother was not identified.
