Broward Sheriff's Office Bailiff Charged With Attempted Murder, Attempted Sexual Battery

A Broward County Sheriff's Office court bailiff is facing charges in Miami-Dade after authorities say he repeatedly stabbed and tried to rape a prostitute.

Kendrick Kinard Busby, 45, is charged with attempted second-degree murder with a deadly weapon and attempted sexual battery with a weapon following his arrest Sunday. He was released from jail on $30,000 bond Tuesday.

"Mr. Busby looks forward to the day that he can challenge the baseless allegations that have been brought against him and clear his reputation as an outstanding member of this community," attorney Elias Hilal said in a statement Tuesday.

A spokeswoman for the BSO said Busby has been a bailiff since 2007. He has been suspended without pay pending the outcome of the investigation.

According to an arrest report, Busby met the prostitute at a gas station in northwest Miami-Dade on Feb. 21 and she agreed to perform a sex act on him in exchange for $60.

Busby drove to another location and parked his car, then pulled out a knife and put it against her neck, demanding she perform the sex act without a condom, the report said.

When she tried to push the knife away from her neck, Busby stabbed her in the back, the report said. When she tried to get out of his car he stabbed her several times in the abdomen, according to the report.

The woman was able to get out of the car and Busby sped off, the report said. The woman was able to get back to her car and drove herself to Northshore Hospital, but she was taken by ambulance to Jackson Memorial Hospital where she spent a week recovering.

The woman was able to get the first three numbers of Busby's license plate which helped police track him down, the report said. She was also able to pick him out of a photo lineup, according to the report.
