Broward Sheriff's Office Department of Detention Lieutenant Arrested in Road Rage Incident: FHP

A Broward Sheriff's Office Department of Detention lieutenant was arrested after authorities say he waved his firearm at another driver during a road rage incident in central Florida Sunday.

John Charles Dlugos, 46, was arrested on an aggravated assault with a weapon charge according to a Florida Highway Patrol arrest report.

Dlugos was booked into jail on $3,500 bond. It's unknown if he's hired an attorney.

According to the arrest report, Dlugos and the other driver, Edric Caban, were both driving southbound on the Turnpike in Winter Garden when they got into an argument over driving too closely.

Both drivers "exchanged hand gestures" and Caban claimed Dlugos "produced a small black firearm and was waving it towards his direction," the report said.

Dlugos claimed he saw a black object in Caban's hands and said he was in fear for his life. Caban slowed down and let Dlugos continue on then pulled over and reported the incident, the report said.

A BSO spokesperson said Dlugos, who has been with the department since March 1993, has been suspended with pay while the incident is investigated.
