Broward Sheriff's Office Deputy Kills Dog While Executing Warrant in Lauderhill

A Broward Sheriff's deputy killed a dog while executing a drug search warrant at a home in Lauderhill Friday.

Members of the SWAT team and BSO's Violence Intervention Proactive Enforcement Response team were executing the warrant at a home in the 3400 block of Northwest 1st Street when they encountered a large pit bull, officials said.

Officials said a deputy used a "noise flash diversionary device" to stop the dog, which was aggressive. The dog died at the scene.

A woman, 29-year-old Shaneka Caldwell, was arrested at the home on numerous drug charges.

According to an affidavit, deputies found heroin, cocaine, Flakka and Ecstasy in the home, as well as a firearm and a large amount of cash in a purse.

The incident remains under investigation.
